Traditional Maori Hangi Preparations

On 18th July 2025, Local volunteers gathered at the GYNZ facility to carry out the full preparation process for a traditional Māori earth oven (hāngī), making thorough preparations for a community public welfare meal.

The volunteer team worked collaboratively and busily in an orderly manner: they purchased fresh meat, vegetables, fruits, and other ingredients in advance, carefully washed and portioned them, and arranged them on trays. Together, they carried the wooden pallets needed to build the fire, dug the pit for the earth oven, and constructed the underground cooking structure. From ingredient preparation and material handling to building the fire pit and oven, every task proceeded smoothly and systematically. This preparation activity, rooted in traditional Māori food culture, united the local volunteer force, laid the foundation for the upcoming community public welfare meal, and embodied the public welfare spirit of mutual aid and solidarity.
